Abstract

There is an active community of scientist on many social media platforms, Twitter included. Popular hashtags for chemists include #realtimechem, #chemtweeps, and the all encompassing #PhDlife. There is some sense that this serves simply as an echo chamber, with like-minded academic and industry scientists speaking at and over each other. While this may often be the reality for much of the scientific content shared on social media, if it provides a platform, or more importantly a starting point for civilized dialogue, then it is certainly worth the effort. To this end, I have started sharing my experiences in the lab in an attempt to increase public access to my particular ivory tower.
