Seven Happily Ever Afters for Cinderella. A creative translation
Abstract
Cinderella is an internationally well-known myth that has been retold, adapted and translated countless times for hundreds of years. Out of approximately seven-hundred different print versions of the myth, this project will focus on seven English translated variations of Cinderella and perform an intersemiotic translation of the texts into images depicting tropes present in all of the seven texts. This translation will be a violent one. There will be no attempts to express an accurate representation of source languageās interpretation of Cinderella, only my own interpretation regarding what is significant about all these versions of Cinderella will be presented. I intend to explore and participate in an utterly unfaithful method of translation that yields a deceptively inaccurate representation of the translated texts, in hopes of ultimately exposing the process of a violent translation.
